is the portrait of an imposing and majestic Nordic horse. Watching him approach me as I crouch in the snow, I try not to jump whenever he lets out his powerful smoky breath. He stops a few feet away from me facing me. Then I see the strong side wind accompanied by the burning fire of the golden hour drawing the shadow and the light of a portrait that I can't miss. I go all in, at the risk of losing that moment, I lie down quietly on my stomach, swapping my mobility for an even lower angle. I don't believe there is a position in which you can feel smaller and more vulnerable in front of a horse of such stature. That’s the angle and the emotion I needed to capture so much presence in a "closeup" portrait. Although we sometimes feel small and vulnerable in the face of the force of nature, this is often where we feel the most freedom...
... As always, I owe this take to a little luck and a lot of preparation. I had been looking to photograph horses for a year, but not at all costs, I knew what I had in mind would take time to find. I wanted a clean background, beautiful, free and imposing horses with the force of winter nature clearly present in their portrait. After months of scouting, I finally found this quite isolated place, found the contact details of the owners, got special permission, and finally I patiently waited for the perfect day: a snowstorm aftermath, very sunny with a powerful wind. When we have prepared so well and we arrive at the day when all the elements are gathered, and where we just have to let go of our art, it is an incredible feeling of freedom ... The inspiration, the chills, the amazement accompany each click. We savor every moment of the luck we have created for ourselves.
